Personal Development and Wellbeing Education
Intent
Success For All goes beyond their time here at NLC. We develop students who are Ready to be Ambitious, building Cultural Capital into everything we do, including an extensive extra-curricular and event programme that enables pupils to be prepared for future success. Students who are Respectful to themselves and others, instilling self-belief and to develop the skills required to make a positive contribution to the wider and society and become active citizens. Students who show Resilience in Life, continuing to have high aspirations for themselves and look for new opportunities to improve themselves throughout their life to enable themselves to Thrive.
Our Personal Development programme prepares students for life in modern Britain, with fundamental British Values underpinning everything we do. We go beyond the statutory, to offer our students a bespoke learning journey through the key areas of Personal Development based on their existing circumstances, focusing on the important life skills they need. We celebrate and promote diversity in order to ensure Success For All.
Implementation
- Personal development is run in a 30 minute lesson every day which we call “Thrive”
- Pupils are taught in form groups.
- Each Year group is led by a Curriculum Lead, who has a team of 6 tutors.
- The teams are grouped according to main subject taught and area in school, developing a collaborative approach to planning and delivery.
- Our curriculum is based on the 3 golden strand of “Health & Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World” underpinned by the fundamental British Values.
- 5 “Thrive Experts” help support these Year teams, depending on the theme of the module they are teaching.
